Community Health Work
I. Who can be a scholar?
- High school graduate, preferably 16-25 years old upon admission.
- Should not have more than one (1) year of college experience.
- If out of school youth, preferably not more than 3 years
- Comes from a depressed community in dire need of health workers and distant from health facilities.
- Parents and scholar are permanent residents of the community endorsing the scholar
- Scholar must have resided in the sending community for at least one (1) year prior to nomination.
- Scholar must be nominated by the community through a Barangay Resolution signed by at least 75% of household heads.
- Family income must not be more than PHP100,000 per annum.
- Physically and mentally fit.
- Committed to stay and serve the underserved areas of their municipality/province/region evidenced by his/her willingness to sign a Return Service Agreement of two (2) years service for every year of training.
- Outstanding Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and or members of the Community Health Team are encouraged to be nominated.
II. Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Service Leave Performance - 50%
- Academic standing - 15%
- Community endorsement - 20%
- Availability of health personnel - 10%
- Faculty evauluation - 5%
Criteria for promotion of nominees for BSN who have been employed (health/health-related work settings):
- Latest performance evaluation (PES or equivalent in private institutions) - 50%
- Endorsement from sending agency or sending LGU - 25%
- Academic standing - 25%
Note: CHW graduates for promotion to BSN should have passed the Midwifery Licensure Examinations and the BSN pre-qualifying examinations conducted by the BSN Department.
III. Medicine
- Service leave performance - 35%
- Endorsement from the Municipal/Provincial Health Board approving the nomination of the scholar. - 15%
- Health human resource complement of the sponsoring Province or Municipality - 10%
- Passed the Medical pre-qualifying examinations and interview - 10%
- Faculty evaluation - 10%
- Academic standing - 20%
Criteria for promotion to Medicine level for nominees who have been employed (health/health-related work settings):
- Latest performance evaluation (PES or equivalent in private institutions) - 40%
- Endorsement from sending agency or sponsoring municipality or province - 20%
- Health human resource complement of the sponsoring municipality/province - 10%
- Passed the Medical pre-qualifying examination and Interview - 10%
- Academic standing - 20%
Note: Applicants to Medicine must have taken the NMAT with a score on the 15th percentile or higher.
Criteria for nominees who are recipients of other Scholarships (e.g. PinoyMD):
- Endorsement and approval of scholarship financial support from sending agency (GO/NGO) - 60%
- Passed the Medical pre-qualifying examination and Interview - 20%
- NMAT Score - 10%
- Academic standing - 10%
